Man Over Whiteside Falls Was Nearly Killed in 1911
Gus Baity recalls surviving a 1800 foot plunge from Whiteside Rock in 1911. After slipping from Fool's Rock while scaring girls, Baity hung on a rhododendron bush for over an hour with injuries including a broken thumb and knee cap as friends and Charlie Wright pulled him to safety. The tale, once a local legend, links Baity to a Carnegie inquiry and a famous rescue.
