Israel Studies Egypt's Suez Canal Pullback Demand
In Jerusalem, Israel cautiously studies Sadat's call for a partial Israeli pullback from the east bank of the Suez Canal as a first step toward a timetable for withdrawal. Sadat extends the cease fire by 30 days and would reopen the canal to world shipping if Israel complies. Reports note Israeli newspapers challenge the move while expecting no immediate resumption of fighting or UN mediation progress.
