Burleson to donate deer if park bills pass
J E Burleson of Spruce Pine offers about 500 privately protected deer from Mitchell County to the state as stock for game preserves if a park and sanctuary bill is approved. He will also lend a 590 acre preserve site and cooperate with adjoining landowners to create large sanctuaries. He argues the measure is a top state priority to protect wildlife.

Bond Issue Bill for Park Still Seen Favorable
The Smoky Mountain National Park bond proposal faces a mixed scene with Western North Carolina manufacturing interests and lobbyists opposing. Supporters led by Congressmen Abernethy and park officials argue the state should donate land while the federal government funds and develops the park, shifting public sentiment toward passage as lawmakers gain clearer park details. Local traders report a robust market with 355,160 pounds sold for 56,158.48 dollars, though overall prices dip due to a glut of poorer grades.
