Appam's Passengers Liberated By Germans With Reluctance
The Appam, a former British liner, had British passengers and prisoners released after U.S. officials pressed Germany. Collector Hamilton demanded the release of all noncrew prisoners. Berg agreed. German authorities retained mail and certain belongings, while most prisoners were allowed to land or remain aboard for transfer to New York.
