County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn called for a special independent court to review metropolitan air traffic after three midweek aerial collisions in southern California. The Norwalk crash killed 48, part of a 55 fatal series with a C118 and a Navy Neptune and two civilian planes. The MATS four engine transport from Long Beach to McGuire Air Force Base killed 41 aboard.
PADUCAH Ky A woman Jewell English 24 of Paducah was shot at a roadblock set for escaped gunman Carl W Burton 24 of Redwood City California during a tense 30 hour search. A Missouri trooper freed abducted companion Trooper William Littie unharmed as helicopters aided the pursuit. The shooter Forest McAllister of Fulton Kentucky was said to be an over eager spectator. no charges were filed. Burton fled on foot as officers extended the manhunt across Kentucky Illinois and Missouri.
