Kidnap slaying of Dr. J. C. B. Davis uncovered in Missouri

A 20 year old youth confessed to kidnapping and killing Dr J C B Davis of Willow Springs Missouri. Robert Kenyon Grimmett is identified as the killer and an abductee ransom note demanded five thousand dollars. Kenyon was arrested after a tip and taken to an undisclosed prison location. The body was found near a roadside fourteen miles southeast of Willow Springs after authorities followed the confession. The investigation is ongoing and further details will be released by federal officers.

Raleigh February 3 Major A L Fletcher state labor commissioner appealed to all boiler owners whose boilers are exempt from state inspection to suspend operations immediately upon any leak and have tests done He and W E Shuping chief boiler inspector said such explosions seen in the last two weeks could be prevented. They noted the state has only one boiler inspector with hundreds of boilers to test periodically.

Poison Flour Fatal to Woman in Lumberton

In Lumberton a coroner's jury will probe the death of 24 year old Mrs. Andrew Cox who died after eating biscuits made with poison flour. Her husband and two children were sickened by the same bread. Leroy Williams, a Black man, confessed to putting agricultural poison in flour but gave no clear motive.

The High Point city council let a second contract to Leon Ellis Co of Greensboro for 7 752 25 to complete 1 170 feet of sewer improvements along the Southern Railway tracks from Perry street to Main street as part of grade crossing elimination. A heating installation contract for the National Guard Armory went to D Roy Wright Co of High Point for 2 742 with a 30 day completion guarantee. The city expects more contracts on the project funded by the State Highway Commission and PWA.

The Roosevelt administration sent a five billion dollar works program to Congress to combat floods and depressions. Virginians in a central tier of counties asked seismologists to day to check their instruments for a record of what was believed to have been a slight earthquake last night. The University of Virginia seismograph was not operating when the tremor was felt, but authorities at Georgetown University, Washington, promised a report today.
