Moscow reports a second powerful rocket shot over the Pacific ending tests. Tass says the 44 000 square mile area set aside since Jan 8 is open to planes and shipping. The first rocket on Jan 20 landed about 1.24 miles from target. distance for the second was not given.
Washington AP. Howard Holderness president of Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Co. Greensboro says the firm owns about 41 percent of Security National Bank, down from about 80 percent. The House Rules Committee begins action to move a limited civil rights bill toward a vote. Southerners resist amendments and broadened enforcement, while Republicans push a discharge petition to exit Rules. If approved by the House and amended by the Senate, the bill could return to Rules for final consideration late in the session before July conventions.
