Cotton acreage in 1927 to shrink little says economist

Dr. G W Forster reports a 1927 cotton acreage reduction of about ten percent nationwide, with North Carolina likely to cut more. He notes large increases in Texas and Oklahoma could offset losses, predicting a 14 million bale crop with a 9 million bale carryover, amid a world overhang of 9 million bales.

Cotton outlook darkens for the South in 1927

Dr Forster warns of 1927 cotton supply reaching 23 million bales with consumption likely lower than 1926. He predicts little purchasing power growth in the US and Europe, casting gloom on southern agriculture and signaling a potential agricultural revolution. Farmers urged to use supply demand data in planning. Frank Parker notes federal data not yet complete but supports Forster’s findings.
