Christmas Day BOAC crash at Prestwick kills 28
At Prestwick Airport on Christmas morning a BOAC Stratocruiser crashed on landing, overturned, and burned. Twenty eight people died including two Americans Dr. and Mrs. Walter C. Mayland of Evanston Michigan and Kenneth R. Davidson of Bronxville New York. eight survived. The disaster left many passengers and crew trapped in the flaming wreckage with rescuers racing to pull survivors and recover bodies amid explosions and fire.

An American Air Force sergeant, Sgt. John Nelson of Choctaw Oklahoma, watched as a BOAC airliner crashed at Prestwick, killing his fiancee Nancy Campbell, 22, of Troon, and 27 others. Ten Die in Parkin Tenant House Fire Near Memphis
A Christmas Eve blaze at a frame tenant house on the Owen Cook cotton plantation killed 11 people and hurt five. Victims were two Mexican farm families—Mrs. Pete Santana and her children Jolly Pete Jr Sophie Mando Jimmy and five Montana children—burned trying to rescue infants after kerosene was thrown on a smoldering stove. Surviving were the two fathers, Mrs. Montana, and one child from each family. The tragedy occurred about 10 miles south of Parkin Arkansas near U S 70. Parkin lies about three miles west of Memphis. Hospitalized were Montana and one son in serious condition and Santana’s daughter Mary Ann treated for injuries. The families had lived on the Cook farm about a year where three other Mexican families also tenants.

In Gallipolis Ohio on Christmas Day 1954 Robert Overstreet and his wife Estelle were trapped for hours in an overturned car in a water filled ditch. Mrs Overstreet died en route to Holzer Hospital from exposure and shock. Mr Overstreet is hospitalized in good condition with exposure and shock.
