Police use 1913 act to force out Hollywood sex shops
Los Angeles police in Hollywood's Western Avenue area implement the 1913 Red Light Abatement Act to deter customers at massage parlors and adult venues. Officers identify patrons and warn they may be witnesses in court, triggering a sharp drop in business and sparking protests from shop owners. Some venues have closed while others fight shutdowns in Superior Court.
