A devastating blaze at the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita killed at least five people and injured several as flames gutted the main building. A passerby alerted the alarm but fire had already gained. Witnesses reported many elderly residents and children overcome by smoke in the freezing temperature.

12 Year Old Hobs Post Office Box and Check Theft

A white 12 year old, Dewey Griffin, is held by city police after robbing a post office box last Tuesday evening. The box was unsecured and a check was taken and later tried to be cashed at a local store. Griffin says the check was given by his grandfather to cash. the grandfather denies knowledge of the incident.
