Baptist Board May Discuss Raleigh Dance Issue

In Raleigh January 13 to 14 the General Board of the Baptist State Convention likely will take up the dancing controversy. Rev. A L Parker of Greensboro says he will not act personally unless Wake Forest College trustees approve on campus dances. The Wake Forest board deferred action and formed a committee to study college control. The convention last met in Raleigh in November and banned on campus dancing at Baptist supported colleges. Parker noted firing trustees would require convention consent at the next fall meeting. The board will also consider a request from East Spencer.

The board found no Northern Division and ruled the appropriate unit should cover all Central Service Area employees, with three operation regions existing and no majority for IBEW in 1947. The union’s interest did not justify an election in the Central Service Area.
