Connally Resigns Navy Post to Seek Texas Governor
Secretary of the Navy John B. Connally will leave December 20 to return to Texas and run for governor. President Kennedy named Fred Korth to succeed him as civilian head of the Navy. Korth, 52, is a Fort Worth banker and Democrat with Washington ties. Connally, 44, a Fort Worth attorney and adviser to Lyndon Johnson, prompted a scramble for Texas Democratic leadership.

Gov. Sanford announces Hayes Corp of Birmingham Alabama will establish an aircraft modification and engineering plant at the Elizabeth City Naval Air Facility area creating about 1500 jobs with a $6 million annual payroll. The project includes Welex Electronic Corp a Halliburton unit as a sub contractor employing 50. Initial hiring may begin next month with about 300 workers and a $1 million payroll.
