Washington December 10 The senate resumed balloting for president pro tempore and remained tightly deadlocked. On the eighth and ninth ballots the vote totals were Moses Republican New Hampshire Pittman Democrat Nevada Norris Independent Republican Nebraska Jones Republican Washington Capper Republican Kansas with Pittman two votes shy of a majority.
London reports Mary Hughes 90, blind and frail, died at Worthing after recounting her claim to be the girl in the nursery rhyme about a lamb that followed her to school. She recalled how Miss Sarah Buel wrote the verses in Wales, and how her family and a sheep breeder father connected the tale to the rhyme.

Addams is a noted pacifist and social legislator undergoing treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Butler long active in world peace and Carnegie Endowment efforts with Briand shaping the Kellogg pact.

Nashville December 19. A resolution by W. Boswell Morgan county proposes a new state Frankland in east Tennessee. The plan argues eastern Tennessee is distinct and would assume one third of the state debt. It asks Governor Horton to call an election by April 16 for eastern counties to decide.
In Lewisburg West Virginia a mob of about sixty men raided the Greenbrier county jail early today abducted two Black men Tom Jackson 25 and George Banks 27 from cell blocks then hanged them from a telephone pole after binding them with ropes. Gunfire pierced the bodies as the crowd dispersed. The victims had been arrested November 22 in a separate incident linked to a Black dance dispute. Local jailer Wallace Flint assisted as the mob seized keys and freed the pair.
