Waves of B52 bombers hit Viet Cong trench systems near Tay Ninh and a highway north of Saigon while a third raid targeted a headquarters west of Hue. U S officials describe a stepped up campaign as Dean Rusk visits Saigon and warns against stopping the bombing.
The American Podiatry Association estimates shoppers walk about 25 miles each this year totaling 2 billion miles. Doctors warn of foot and ankle stress in crowded stores and offer four rules for comfort including proper footwear breaks and foot massage. Dr. Nyman jokes his wife handles shopping, praising her Trojan spirit.
Marjorie Farber testified that Dr Carl Coppolino attempted to kill her husband William Farber by placing a plastic bag over his head while ill at home on July 29 1963. She described a love affair and said Coppolino spoke of plans to remove her husband.

France and the Soviet Union condemned the Vietnam War as a danger to regional neighbors and a barrier to peaceful relations. They blamed external intervention, implied the United States, and called for continued dialogue while noting escalating war tensions and rising losses.
Secretary of State Dean Rusk, arriving from Formosa, rejects another long pause in bombing North Viet Nam unless Hanoi commits to reciprocation. He says both sides must stop, predicts peace talks as the Communists seek battlefield gains, and notes improved Viet Nam conditions. Rusk plans briefings at Lodge residence before Bangkok and Paris NATO talks.
