WADESBORO Dec 7 The imoe mortgage loan after the low mood test proved a safe investment says Paul J Riker President of the North Carolina Building and Loan League He notes associations in the state invest mainly in home mortgages and have paid shareholders with minimal losses while a few small ones liquidated With data from the American Savings Building and Loan Institute he cites three national institutions 79 million investors and 21 billion dollars in home mortgages The Building and Loan Associations Life Insurance Companies and Mutual Savings Banks The 1930 asset base of building and loan associations covered 11 million people 98 72 survived the four years of the low mood He says life companies and mutual savings banks proved equally safe Despite reduced lending building and loan associations maintained some mortgages during the downturn and are now lending more for home financing This boosts FHA efforts to encourage home modernization A current challenge is finding enough good loans to absorb rising savings flowing into their coffers.

Freeze Loflin of 3061 Julian Avenue sustained painful injuries when his car was struck by southbound train No. 37 at the East Side crossing in Thomasville. He was taken to City Memorial Hospital by Green's ambulance. his condition was not serious, though painful.
