U.N. forces destroyed Katanga aircraft in a Kelwezi base attack and bombed Jadotville in renewed clashes. Katanga bombed Elisabethville airport while ground fighting rages near U.N. headquarters as international powers debate intervention.
NASA announced the first U S attempt to orbit a man with John H Glenn Jr assigned to pilot a Mercury capsule. The launch was postponed from December to early January after Christmas and will be a manned flight with no more animal tests.
