Tragedy Strikes Family in June Shootings
In June two from the same family died and their survivors lived with Mrs. Dickson at Rt. 1 Central. Martin, 4s, was killed by a shotgun blast in the front yard. his wife Geneva Martin was shot in the shoulder and face and is in critical condition at an Anderson hospital. Sheriff Bolding said Dickson forced his wife to accompany him after the shooting and suspected mental illness. The couple’s two young sons witnessed the events but were unharmed. Coroner Clement A. Smith ruled murder and death by own action, with no third party involved. He noted Dickson shot from outside the car, then killed himself after entering the vehicle. An impaneled jury viewed the scene but an inquest seems unlikely. Officers say the car likely had been parked after 3 a.m. Wednesday, found by a nearby high school girl who alerted police.

Jobless Rate Drops to Eight-Year Low in November
Washington AP reports the United States unemployment rate fell to 4.2 percent in November, a record November employment level of 72.8 million. The number unemployed reached 2,566,000, up slightly from October, with seasonal adjustments masking the real drop. Without adjustments, the rate would be 3.9 percent of a 75,803,000 civilian labor force. Harold Goldstein of the Bureau of Labor Statistics called the change not statistically significant but part of a year-long trend downward.

Where do we go from here in Vietnam base buildup
Bulk send them, and this defense job has eaten up battalions. Jungled areas like Chu Lai An Khe and Ben Cat, where up to six months ago the Communists moved freely, have become American base locations. The Allied buildup thus far seems at the most to have had the effect of containing the Communists. Open invasion across the border by North Vietnamese troops has drastically changed the picture.
