City to crack down on High Point license tag owners
City councilmen ordered the police to target about 20 000 vehicle owners who have not bought city license tags. In 1970 High Point registered 41 116 cars and 7 411 trucks within city limits but sold only about 29 000 tags, netting a small profit after costs. The council discussed adding words to the tag such as Furniture Land USA, and debated display rules plus a $1.50 fine and $1 license fee for noncompliance.
