Salisbury Aug 31 George KR Uzzell of Rowan county says he will stay in the race for the speakership. He told the Salisbury Post DOJ assurances prevent his removal to Texas over an indictment tied to Sherman anti trust law. The federal case in San Antonio is not set for trial until late this year.

Duchess of Windsor to undergo appendectomy at Roosevelt

A spokesman for the Duke of Windsor says the Duchess of Windsor is entering Roosevelt hospital New York for an appendectomy. An official British information service notice confirms the plan and adds a 10 room suite and six nurses have been engaged for her care.

Infantile Paralysis Attacks Trinity Child

Trevor Hendricks seven year old son of Mr and Mrs T R Hendricks of Trinity Rt 3 Randolph county was taken to the infantile paralysis emergency hospital in Heibory for treatment diagnosed by Dr J G Groome his physician. The child grew ill a few days ago and is not believed to be seriously ill. Health authorities report no new cases locally since last Friday when the city noted its seventh case.
