Seattle Mayor Attacks Hearst in Strike Showdown
August 26 Seattle. A drawn out strike at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer enters its fourth day after two employees were fired. The Newspaper Guild and thousands pledge support while business leaders form a law and order league to oppose the strike. Mayor John F. Dore calls the walkout a battle of all wage earners and targets publisher William Randolph Hearst. He warns Hearst may attempt to run the city, claiming the newsroom conflict is the key issue.
