Twenty Years Ago the High Point Humane Society Trials
The High Point Humane Society, formed November 8 1915, pursued two early cases in municipal court January 1916. Ump Barringer and Collins Horney faced charges for animal cruelty tied to a balky horse and a whipped horse. Judge Carter Dalton fined Horney five dollars while Barringer was not held criminally liable. The society aimed to reform transfer companies by careful case preparation and court convictions followed by advice on care.
