British forces push from Bapaume toward Maricourt as heavy rains slow movement. British report progress east of the Ancre, with pockets forming near Bapaume and Favre, while German resistance remains active near the Scarpe and Cojeul rivers.
British troops attacked along the Hindenburg Line this morning in a four mile front. The operation aimed to press German lines and gain ground as part of ongoing frontline actions.
British forces attacked in the Scarpe sector east of Arras and advanced about two miles on a four mile front. Monchy le Preux Guemappe and Wancourt were captured, while French troops gained Fresnoy a Roye and other gains were reported along the Ailette and Aisne rivers. Four hundred prisoners were taken as the battle extended toward the Hindenburg line.
Washington reports a naval seaplane with three crew members including Ensign Donald C. Pero was lost after colliding with another seaplane off Fire Island Saturday evening. Minesweepers searched the water for Pero and two other crewmen W. C. Jaeger and I. A. Newman. Ensign H. Stevens and his mechanic survived after landing on the water.

Marine corps totals cited: officers 84 dead, 59 wounded, 1 missing. men 859 dead, 1 861 wounded, 6 in enemy hands, 0 missing, grand total 2961. Sunday’s list further shows 6 killed, 1 severely wounded, 4 undetermined, 1 missing, 1 in enemy hands, total 13.
Storm and high winds last Saturday damaged beach property and rail line in Wilmington. About 15000 dollars will cover the damages to beachfront structures, with crop losses not yet estimated. trolley service was restored, wreckage cleared, and parts of the beach were lighted while northern cottages remained dark.
