Rail strike talks fail as big five end New York conference

In New York on August 25, representatives of rail executives withdrew from negotiations with the Brotherhood chiefs after a two hour session. The mediators had sought a settlement without surrendering seniority, while union leaders prepared for renewed action. Officials indicated talks would not resume for the present, stating the dispute could move to a ten man commission if needed.

Rural Church Representatives Attend Guilford County Meet

Representatives from nearly all Sunday schools in High Point township attend the Guilford County Sunday School convention at Tabernacle M. P. church ten miles south of Greensboro. The event runs from Thursday to Friday with sessions led by Miss Flora Davis and Rev. E. White among others, featuring devotions, talks on the value of Sunday schools, cooperative work results, and plans to reduce the "Jack Spot" on North Carolina.

Negotiations to settle coal strike resume within a week

Washington reports negotiations between anthracite operators and United Mine Workers officials to end the suspension of mining operations are expected to be renewed within a week. President Harding is said to be aware of the situation and supports resuming talks on arbitration.

Rotary Club Provides College Loans To Four Local Boys

Reward Offered for Thieves in Rocky Mount Bomb Attempt

T R Albright of the Atlantic Coast Line announced a $500 reward for the arrest of those who attempted to blow up the pumping station at Rocky Mount. A second $500 reward was offered for information leading to the capture of persons who threw a stick of dynamite into the shop enclosure on Wednesday night.

Little Girl Alta Silman Dies at Home

The four year old Alta Oneal Silman of 908 South Main street died yesterday after several weeks illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 PM at the family home conducted by Rev. T. J. Rogers of South Main Street Methodist church, with interment in Oakwood cemetery.
