Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi flew back to Tehran via Baghdad after five days in exile following the overthrow of Premier Mohammad Mossadegh. Zahedi became premier as crowds cheered in Iran, while Mossadegh surrendered in Tehran under guard.

North Carolinian Dies In Quebec and Burial Planned in Charlotte

North Carolina political figure Cameron Morrison died unexpectedly in Quebec at age 83. His body was returned to Charlotte for visitation and a 4 p.m. funeral at Covenant Presbyterian Church led by three Presbyterian leaders. Notables including Gov. Umstead and former governors were expected to attend. Morrison had served as governor, U S representative, and senator and was known as the state’s “good roads governor” for modernizing highways. He was survived by a daughter and four grandchildren.

North Carolina Delegation Named to National Democratic Advisory Body

Raleigh reports eight Tar Heel leaders join Gov Umstead and State Democratic Chairman B Everett Jordan on the advisory committee to shape policy. Members include Sen John D Larkins Jr of Trenton former House Speaker W Frank Taylor of Goldsboro William B Harrison of Rocky Mount YDC President David McConnell of Charlotte Mecklenburg County Democratic chairman Monroe Redden of Hendersonville and former State Sen Mrs R S Ferguson of Taylorsville. Mount Hope Finish ing to appeal NLRB ruling

Arguments before the Fourth Circuit in Richmond will test the NLRB order requiring Mount Hope Finishing Inc of Butner North Carolina to reinstate workers at its North Dighton Massachusetts factory closed in 1951. The full board upheld a trial examiner finding the plant was closed to escape labor troubles and must offer jobs to about 700 idled workers and cover transport and back wages if owed.

Derailment Halts Southern Railway Freight Traffic

A 75 car northbound freight derailed near Klumac Mill Salisbury injuring none. Twenty two cars left the tracks and one nearly struck the mill. A hot box caused the accident. wreckers from Spencer and Charlotte helped reroute northbound traffic to Wins ton Salem. Durham court heard injunction action involving Erwin Mills stock control and selling agents.

Grunewald Overcome By Gas Fumes In Jersey City

Henry Grunewald of Washington DC and Mrs Ann Anderson were found overcome by gas fumes from a kitchen stove in an apartment in Jersey City. Grunewald, 63, and Anderson, 46, were in good condition at Jersey City Medical Center. Grunewald had drawn national attention in a congressional inquiry into influence peddling and faced penalties for contempt of Congress.
