Wallace to undergo surgery for abdominal abscess
Dr. George A. Hallenbeck plans a 50 minute operation at the University of Alabama hospital in Birmingham to drain a sleeping abscess on the right side of Governor George C. Wallace's abdomen. The abscess, linked to the infamous dirty bullet, may cause fever or infection but hallmarks indicate no spreading infection. Wallace, shot May 15 in Laurel Maryland, has been treated for paralysis and rehab, with previous abscess drainage on July 19.
