Highway Hiring Freeze Lifted In Parts By NC
RALEIGH AP An economy hiring freeze at the North Carolina Highway Commission is partly lifted allowing the filling of several hundred posts in design and preconstruction. State administrator W F Babcock said the February freeze ordered by Gov Bob Scott remains for most highway jobs. He noted hires in design and preconstruction as the highway program expands due to gas tax revenue and the release of $60 million from the 1965 bond issue.

Deputy Attorney General Harry McGalliard denied that the office is consulting lawmakers while preparing a ruling on a potential loophole in the 1969 interest ceiling law.
