Street People Clash With Police In Seattle Riots

In Seattle University District police used tear gas and night sticks against long haired protesters during a three hour melee. Twenty one people were arrested including two suspected burglars as rioters, estimated at 2000, attacked shops and threw rocks. No injuries were reported. Earlier disturbances Monday and Wednesday led to more arrests and officer injuries.

Strike Staged In Charleston By City Workers

About 185 Negro garbage collectors and street workers walked out in Charleston causing 33 garbage trucks to idle at 8 a.m. White drivers reported to work. The action occurred during a Southern Christian Leadership Conference annual meeting, which aims to push unionization of low paid workers next year.
