A sudden rally sent the general industrial average to a historic peak and the general railroad average to the highest since March 1917. Rail and high priced industrials led, with firms like American Can, Mack Trucks, General Electric, International Telephone and Westinghouse Air Brake reaching new highs. Wheat and cotton prices turned down as rains in the southwest supported crops. Bond issuance stayed light, while call money declined and time rates softened. Foreign exchanges remained steady amid cautious optimism over weather and traffic trends. Cotton on shipboard awaiting clearance stood at 29 778 bales versus 28 137 last year.
