Legion Seeks Old Tires From motorists for relief
The local American Legion asks drivers to donate worn-out tires, which are worthless to owners but valuable to the post. They will sell collected tires at a low price to reduce debts and use the proceeds to support post finances. Contributions are urged at a collection point near the Southern Passenger station.

State's Tuberculosis Plague Persists Amid Hospital Strain
The article argues North Carolina faces a continuing tuberculosis crisis with about 2,500 deaths annually and long waiting lists at the state sanatorium. It critiques funding cuts that limit capacity from 300 to 1,000 and questions county sanatoria as preferable, while contrasting exercised health myths with observed outcomes among former athletes and the general public.
Outspoken critics and a wandering mind on war and culture
A fragmented column features sharp diatribes on Nietzsche Shaw and Lincoln, debates on censorship and public morality, praise and fault aimed at war and politicians, plus social observations from a busy mind. It critiques media, pop culture, vagrancy laws, soldiers, and Broadway’s moral climate with fervent, biting prose.
Fine lines on human nature and conduct in early 20th century prose
The fragment critiques social vanity and the idea of growing up, arguing that real virtue lies in living well than condemning others. It reflects gendered expectations, noting a girl should be a lively tomboy until adolescence, then become a proper lady for life.
