Downtown High Point eyes mall to link core district
The plan outlines a pedestrian mall from Hayden Place to Hamilton Street over the Southern Railway cut, with a parking core and landscaped shops including a children's nursery. About 1,500 new parking spaces are proposed, financed mainly by private merchants and landlords through a covenant to fix up shops. Officials project 60 percent completion in five years and total buildout in twenty, aiming to attract the 600000 residents within an hour’s drive to boost downtown retail trade.
