The Asama volcano near Karuizawa began erupting at 10 01 am and 12 25 pm, with ashes and small stones falling in the area. The Lindberghs are guests of Ambassador W Cameron and will remain a few days at the Forbes residence, which offers an unobstructed view of the volcano.

Baum, and William J. de Wald. Inspectors cite a broken propeller hub as the likely cause.
The case of Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon Jr was brought to the public procurator in Tokyo after they photographed across Japanese territory. Statements and 100 feet of cinema film were submitted as evidence. Officials may press court action though the aviation bureau granted permission to work on their plane before a planned non stop flight to Seattle.
President Hoover returned to the White House today after a weekend at his Rapidan camp. Mrs. Hoover joined him at the mountain retreat yesterday after returning from Akron and was with him along with several guests.
M D Johnson auditor Liberty Bank Nashville arrived to testify in the $1 300 000 bank fraud trial involving Col Luke Lea and three co defendants. Transacted through Liberty Bank were many alleged conspiratorial dealings with the defunct Central Bank and Trust company in Asheville. Wallace B Davis Luke Lea Jr and E P Charlet are indicted with Luke Lea for conspiring to defraud and misappropriation of funds. Owens a former Central bank collector testified earlier in the week.
Police sealed the Karl Liebknecht Haus at Bolsow Platz and posted guards after clashes in which at least three people were killed.
Colonel Luke Lea and four associates were indicted by the Davidson county grand jury in Nashville on conspiracy charges tied to Liberty Bank and Trust Company affairs. Named defendants include E P Charlet R B Moseley J B Ramsey and W S Chappell as conspirators who allegedly planned to cheat and defraud the bank.
Col and Mrs Charles A Lindbergh’s vacation flight toward Nome Alaska is delayed by rain and fog. Weather slows the hop from Barrow to Nome and the next leg to Karangisak, with strong northeast winds and ice conditions cited. The couple stay indoors with hosts Dr and Mrs Henry Ghent and visit local sights as they await better weather.
Berlin Aug 10 The moderate Prussian coalition led by Chancellor Bruening endured attacks from communists national socialists and nationalists aimed at dissolving the diet and forcing elections. A plebiscite failed by three and a half million votes as rioting and shootings erupted in Berlin and Cologne with several police officers killed and many wounded.
A dance hall gun duel on Warrior River 20 miles southwest of Birmingham left David S. Knight dead and hall owner T C Totherow critically wounded. Bystanders Martha Perry and Lewis Bates were also wounded as panic spread through the crowded hall. County investigator T C McCollum said the shooting began when Knight returned after being warned away.
Dispatches from Vera Cruz say the state education director ordered immediate dismissal of all school teachers who love active Catholics. The report appears in La Prensa from Mexico City dated August 10.
J Massabu Huggins secretary of the North Carolina Boxing Commission was wounded in Florence after a gunman shot him at his father’s Johnsonville home. Dick Chenault, arrested, claims no statement. police say the shooting likely arose from a quarrel with Huggins’ brother. Huggins lost an eye, face injuries from small shot, and is expected to recover.
Taraus son Autrey, a 20 year old Union county man convicted of assault on the mother of a seven week old baby, was electrocuted at the state prison. He received one 2 minute 50 second shock at 10 35 after entering the death chamber at 10 29. He proclaimed innocence to reporters and officials though Mrs Keziah testified against him and Sheriff Clifford of Union county said Autrey confessed. He was captured after fleeing from the scene and hunted by hundreds. Six white inmates on death row for attempted arson were moved to regular quarters during the execution.
In St. Augustine Florida a five year old girl is in critical condition after a man, identified as the father of the child, fired a pistol during a confrontation in a downtown park. He is held on a charge of shooting. Mrs Henry Grace witnessed the incident. The bullet struck the girl in the side just below the heart as she tried to seize her ex husband.

Atlanta, August 10. Mayor James L. Key denounced his opponents as hypocrites and morons at a revival meeting led by evangelist Frank Morris. He cited slurs from a child and warned that prohi bition zealots endanger the city and civilization. Morris displayed a bottle of whiskey to claim liquor is widely available.
