Weather Strains Air Conditioning Units Across Region
Guilford Technical Institute researcher J Orville Garrett reports that extended heat waves push central air systems beyond design. He notes 90 degree outdoor and 75 degree indoor targets, with July temperatures running about 10 degrees hotter than normal. Properly sized units fail to offset extreme heat but are not damaged by normal temps. Maintain clear supply grills and clean filters, and wait for normal temperatures to return.
