Fighting Flares On Hamburger Hill Over Vietnam War clash
U S. paratroopers on Hamburger Hill in the A Shau Valley faced renewed fire as American forces tried to clear the 3,000 foot peak. Nine North Vietnamese soldiers were killed while U S. casualties were reported as minimal. U S. bombers followed with mass air strikes to disrupt supply routes from Laos. Commanders defended the operation as clearing the hill for possible future fighting, amid political backlash over tactics and casualties.
