War department seeks 33 million for nationwide anti air defenses

Washington Aug 3 The war department outlines a 33 million plan to encircle the United States with anti aircraft guns searchlights and fire control equipment to equip eight regular army regiments seven national guard regiments and nineteen inactive regular army regiments The program aims to raise air defense adequacy following a Panama Canal defense warning and would fund about 600 planes in 1936 with total forces reaching around 1 800 serviceable aircraft including new 3 inch and 50 caliber guns and 800000000 candle power searchlights
