Washington Aug 3 The war department outlines a 33 million plan to encircle the United States with anti aircraft guns searchlights and fire control equipment to equip eight regular army regiments seven national guard regiments and nineteen inactive regular army regiments The program aims to raise air defense adequacy following a Panama Canal defense warning and would fund about 600 planes in 1936 with total forces reaching around 1 800 serviceable aircraft including new 3 inch and 50 caliber guns and 800000000 candle power searchlights
Governor Floyd B Olson demanded an immediate settlement of the truck drivers strike. He warned of possible tightening of vehicle movement now allowed under national guard issued permits if the strike continues.
The British Admiralty said a box of official papers sent yesterday from London to Portsmouth on a train is missing. Newspapers claimed the papers were highly important admiralty documents about trials of new ships and guns, but the Admiralty said they were not of great importance.
A posse of 35 men searches Hayesville township six miles north of Louisburg for an unidentified suspect who attacked Mrs. J. B. Wilson at her country home this morning.

Raleigh August 3. Emanuel Spice Billings a Person county negro facing electrocution for murder was granted a 30 day reprieve by Governor Ehringhaus, delaying the execution to September 28 under state law.
U S Representative James M Beck of Pennsylvania spoke at Plymouth Vermont honoring Calvin Coolidge. He charged the New Deal destroys individualism and warned dictatorial powers remain dictatorial even when exercised politely. He criticized academic critics and federal bureaucracy benefiting from lavish spending, praising Coolidge's administration.
