A doughboy retook a squad of prisoners and discovered one was his own father. The father had returned to German Poland years earlier and was drafted into the German army. The son freed his emotions but offered guidance and promised his father the best in the house.

The marine corps list shows 4 killed in action 5 wounded severely 2 wounded slightly for a total of 11.
Nine crewmen from a lumber laden four masted schooner were landed at Grand Manan New Brunswick after the vessel sank by a submarine last night. The incident followed removal of provisions from the British schooner near the Maine coast, then the submarine set fire to the ship.
Tyree Neighbors, son of K Neighbors, was bitten three times on the right knee by a loose dog while returning home from 509 English Street. The dog was killed and sent to Raleigh for inspection. Neighbors residents at 50 English Street say the animal had lingered nearby, not fed, and repeatedly reclaimed by others.
New York advancers led a highly active cotton market today with gains of 31 to 79 points across most positions except August, which fell 20 points. The market closed strong with new crop positions rising to fresh highs. October 27.45 December 26.95 January 26.02 March 26.80 May 26.08
Paris dispatch reports over night the Allies advanced toward the Vesle and reached the Aisne between Soissons and Venizel. The French war office confirmed the progress east of Soissons as forces push toward the river line.
Archangel region sees revolt against Bolsheviki government as Soviet troops flee the city. Allied support is implied by the uprising amid the Russian Lapland area. Aug 3 report by Associated Press notes the political shift and retreat of Soviet forces.
