Apogee 1967 at High Point College a disappointing issue
Robert Marks reviews Apogee 1967 the student literary magazine at High Point College. With 47 selections from 27 contributors the issue shows good art work such as The Two Pines and The Greek by Frances Garris but the prose is weak and poetry uneven. The editor Kaye Benfield and reading committee chose final material, yet the overall voice lacks strong personal point of view and originality.

And God Created Man and the Deathly Fall of Reason
A stark prose piece contrasts swamp gloom with human violence. It frames humanity as a beast driven by conquest and survival, recounting a student named Doug Combs who killed over thirty men in eleven months and comparing intellectual pursuits to brutal acts. The voice juxtaposes culture and carnage in a bleak meditation on war and humanity.
