A Pacific coast tragedy near Point Fermin in San Pedro left James Smith 22 and Diane 19 dead after a giant wave washed them into the sea while the others with them escaped. Guards recovered Smith first then his wife at the hospital.
Harris surveys show Vice President Hubert Humphrey rising from 61-39 to 51-49 over Kennedy as Europe tour and antiwar protests boosted support. Johnson’s low job rating persists while Humphrey strong among Republicans and independents, especially on coasts.
