M. G. Mann Buried in Raleigh after Farm Leadership
M. G. Mann, 68, former general manager of the North Carolina Cotton Growers Cooperative Assn. and The Farmers Cooperative Exchange, was buried at Montlawn Cemetery after funeral services at Hayes Barton Methodist Church. Despondency over ill health was cited as the cause of death. Wake County Coroner Bennet ruled it a self-inflicted death, noting an unsigned note. Mann, a Tar Heel farm leader born in Newport, had led two major farm cooperatives and received the State Grange award in 1951 and Progressive Farmer magazine’s 1956 Man of the Year in service to NC agriculture.
