Postal Service improves but delays linger in AP survey
The AP survey of 792 letters from six cities shows overall improvement but ongoing delays in local and intercity mail. Next day delivery hit 80 percent on locals, while Friday mail often reached Tuesday or Wednesday. Air mail varied, with 62 percent arriving before first class in 1973. Zip codes tended to shorten transit times but patterns were inconsistent.
