Ernest Foster Luck Jr. 38 and Wayne Southard 41 were shot near Clara Cox Apartments on Park Street as they stepped from a parked car. Luck died at High Point Memorial Hospital. Southard was treated and released. Police questioned four youths and searched for a fifth in a black and white car.
