Colonel Dodd's cavalrymen crushed a Villa band in a raid leaving twenty five bandits dead on the field while two troopers were killed and three wounded in the engagement.
Two Americans were killed and three wounded when cavalrymen under Colonel Dodd engaged 260 Villa bandits at Tomachio, western Chihuahua, on April 29. The Villa force was surprised and routed as six Mexicans died and 19 were wounded, with horses arms and gear captured. American detachments resumed pursuit into the mountains north and west of Varral.
A report from El Paso says Colonel Dodd’s advance cavalry suffered losses in a recent engagement with unknown opposing forces, possibly Villa or Carranza troops. Detachments operating north of Satevo are pursuing Villa bands as officials expect Governor Obregon’s meeting with Generals Scott and Funston to yield a plan to keep peace along the border.
In municipal court this morning Will Gaither, a young Black man, was convicted of disorderly conduct after a festival incident and threats against Lonnie Whitaker. Capt. Dallas Zollecitfer defended him as witnesses testified. the judge set a $5 fine and he paid court costs. Bob Ritchie paid costs for a dog at large. Grover Marks’s case was dismissed.
Mr and Mrs A S Halstrom who have made High Point their home for years have returned to Chicago where they lived before coming to High Point. Mr Halstrom traveled for a Chicago telephone supply house and friends regret their departure.
High Point Democrats plan to attend the Raleigh state convention with six delegates and six alternates. Key figures include J. J. Farriss Carter Dalton Robert Brockett J. L. Sechrest W. C. Jones A. A State Department release from Washington states the U S position on armed merchant ships. It upholds the right of merchant vessels to carry arms for protection but excludes armed ships used for aggression from neutral port hospitality.

In Dublin Liberty Hall, the rebels headquarters, and Stephen's Green, once held by the insurgents, have fallen to the military. Premier Asquith announced in the house of commons that Irish rebel positions are now under government control.
London reports twenty five casualties from the bombardment of Lowestoft by German warships in a running clash with the British light cruiser squadron and destroyers. Two British light cruisers were struck. a destroyer crew member suffered severe burns. The German ships retreated after about 200 minutes of shelling. The Times notes the raid aimed to test British strength and may signal wider actions linked to Ireland unrest.
Paris reports a duel at 4000 meters off Zeebrugge as a French aeroplane fires nine incendiary bombs at a Zeppelin, appearing to damage it. Simultaneously another French plane with a cannon shells a German torpedo boat off Ostend. A German craft was shot down near Lunéville.
London reports reveal Premier Asquith outlined government measures to force enlistment unless voluntary recruitment reaches targets. If 50,000 men are not attested by May 27 or weekly direct enrollments fall below 15,000, Parliament will be asked to grant compulsory power to raise 200,000 troops.

A hearing is in progress before Referee Sam Bradshaw in Greensboro on a suit by Home Banking Co against D H Milton and American Surety Co. The bank alleges a technical shortage of about 32000 in Milton's accounts as former cashier. The case, started months ago, is heard in the Redding Building and likely to last several days. Lawyers for both sides are listed, with Milton represented by Roberson Earnhardt Smith and Judge W P Bynum. Milton left the bank about two years ago and was followed by M C Crowson.
The Greensboro district conference meets at South Main Street Methodist Church tonight with Dr. J. H. Weaver delivering the sermon. The program runs through Saturday with twice daily evangelistic preaching at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Rev. H. H. Robbins plans to conduct ten days of services after adjournment.
In Nashville on April 26 attorney Charles C. Trabue fatally shot attorney Henry S. Stokes, chief counsel for the taxpayers in the probe into city affairs. Trabue, recently hired as special counsel for the city, reportedly fired three shots in Stokes's office, ending the case.
Raleigh reports E. L. Duke, accused by federal authorities of mail fraud, was captured in Arkansas. Post office inspectors from Raleigh traced the scheme involving Henderson checks sent for purchases while funds existed in Duke’s bank. He faces Arkansas charges before possible extradition to North Carolina.
