President and Mrs Johnson mobbed by schoolchildren in South Bend
In South Bend Indiana President and Mrs Johnson were swept into a wild crowd of cheering schoolchildren as they arrived to begin a four state poverty tour. Despite the crush they were unharmed though several greeters received first aid. Secret Service and police struggled to clear a path as Johnson grimly watched the scene before resuming handshakes with those behind barriers. Mrs Johnson moved more easily through the exit and remarked there was nothing depressing about the crowd.
