In Vienna Austrian authorities force Jewish shopkeepers to display anti Jewish placards for up to forty minutes as SA volunteers lead a broad boycott. Non Aryan works are ordered removed from the Austrian National Library while other books are purged from public venues.
F. Newell of Charlotte praised Senator Ifah Bailey on his ads against several New Deal measures. Newell spoke in Clinton at the Republican convention and joined the charge against federal farm policies.
The Emerywood Country Club will host the first annual Carolinas match play championship open to professionals and amateurs from North and South Carolina. Andy Merrilees leads the effort with expected 100 entries and a progressive prize structure aiming to surpass the Carolinas Open in Monroe.

Police arrested Charlie Link 26 of 1204 Thissell Street on robbery charges after Bud Brown Jolly Cab identified him as the man who robbed him of between 5 and 6 dollars around 11 15 p m. Link is jailed on 150 bond. Douglas Pike 18 son of Police Sgt J O Pike was found dazed in a Greensboro Road ditch with $2 left of $23 and his car abandoned. He reported being picked up by three men after leaving the fairgrounds in Greensboro. one wore a dark coat and light trousers. Police sought the other suspects with no clues early today.
Spanish insurgents report breaking government lines in three places along the Teruel front capturing Aliaga and encircling six government brigades. Reports say rebels also cut toward Castellon de la Plana while Madrid's forces hold Catalonia.

John W. Burkhead, a North Carolina native, died in Covina California from internal injuries after being run over by his own car while cranking it. He refused hospital until several hours after the accident and a coroner said no inquest would be held. He was brother of Mrs. Jay Lee Cannan of Concord NS and Major Calvin Burkhead of Fort Bragg NC.

Forty five charred and broken bodies were recovered from Keen Mountain mine as rescue crews labored through the night. Officials said no further bodies remained in the drifts. Four hundred workers aided in the grim effort amid a furnace like atmosphere and massed crowds along the highway awaiting word of the victims.
O Vance Hoke a 60 year old Charlotte businessman died after a long illness. He moved to Charlotte in 1907 from Catawba county and worked with Hutchison Sehorn and Hipp farm implement concern. In 1912 he bought into the Charlotte Auto and Wagon company and later owned it. He was active in finance circles and a Mason.
