The British freighter City of Salisbury ran aground on a ledge at Boston harbor entrance and split apart shortly after noon. The bow and stern sank, the pilot house stayed visible, and the crew, who had unloaded East Indian reptiles and wild animals after yesterday’s crash near Graves Light, departed before the ship broke up.
About 100 farmers packed the Guilford county farm agent office in Greensboro protesting tobacco acreage quotas they say are too low. County Farm Agent J I Wagoner and staff spent the morning smoothing tempers as Junior AAA Field Officer Henry Winchester noted the protest represented a small percentage of roughly 4 000 county tobacco growers.

Associate Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court George W. Connor died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Raleigh. He was 65, served 14 years on the high court and 11 on the superior bench, and formerly speaker of the House in 1913. Funeral services are set for 3 p.m. tomorrow at his home with interment in the Connor family plot in Wilson. Dr. R. D. W. Connor, national archivist, is a surviving brother.

In Grundy Virginia April 23 21 miners bodies were recovered from a fiery pit at the Red Jacket mine as rescuers pressed to locate nine missing workers. Superintendent Kir led the rescue amid continuing grim search.
