Tax deadline nears in Guilford County tax listings
Guilford county tax officers in High Point push into the final listing week with about 6,500 names on books and roughly 6,000 taxpayers still unlisted. Chief Troy Short says the office will stay open late next week as deadlines loom for April 30, with an expected final tally near 7,500 names and penalties for delinquents.

Large Crowd Attends Homer Rodeheaver Concert at Junior High
Approximately 800 people filled the Junior High School auditorium last night to hear Homer Rodeheaver gospel singing. Mrs. Rodeheaver Thomas and Mrs. Mary Atkin son Henson joined in solos and a multilingual chorus. The program included hymns, readings, trombone solos, and pictures of cemetery improvements, sponsored by Floral Garden Memorial Park.

Unimpressed judge sentences man for untaxed liquor
In Tazwell Virginia John M Croas of Pikeville Kentucky a 95 year old man and Civil War veteran faced jail for possessing untaxed liquor. He offered six reasons why he should avoid jail including age marriages children service and a claim of hair restoring snake oil. The judge gave thirty days and thirty dollars in costs.

Sam Reed Receives Suspended Term In Court
