Raleigh officials heard Dean J. H. Lampe of North Carolina State College urge raw materials producers to expand bulk sales to out of state processors. He said packaging industry could double cash returns and create economic opportunities for the state.
Craven County fire wardens blame a pulp wood worker seeking to cook breakfast outdoors for a blaze that destroyed 75,000 feet of dressed lumber a farmhouse and threatened Dover. Fire trucks from Kinston and New Bern fought the fire six miles south of town burning a tract about two and a half miles long by a half mile wide and threatening surrounding timberlands.
About 250 Scouts from eastern North Carolina opened a weekend Junior Leaders Training Conference in Wilmington. The program included an official welcome, discussions on summer plans for Camp Tom Upchurch near Raeford, and a Scout Fair. Certificates will be awarded tomorrow as the event concludes.

A pre-dawn accident near Clover, South Carolina killed Kenneth Brown 24 of Gastonia and Sgt Natalie Arena 28 of Cortland New York when the car failed to make a curve. William Howard Bryant 18 of Gastonia died later from injuries. Three other Gastonia residents Raymond Owens 17 David Coble and Carroll Cabe 28 were hospitalized with injuries.
A Corey of Martin County was elected president of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors at the 15th annual meeting to succeed J C Currin of Oxford. B W Paschal of Carthage was named vice president and E W Ruggles of North Carolina State College was secretary treasurer.
A 13 pound Smithfield ham selling for 715 dollars at 15 dollars per pound was exhibited by Leon ard Wiggs of Kenly Rt. 2. Four local men purchased the ham and were told by Senator Hoey’s office that the President would accept the donation next week.
The trial of Theodore Lamet, a 41 year old Greensboro man, will resume April 29 after he admitted in federal court to buying and selling women’s hose above price ceilings during World War II. Judge Johnson J Hayes continued the trial as the government alleges his 1941 to 1946 income exceeded 850000 and Lamet faces income tax evasion charges.

Elliott was critical. Authorities say excessive speed caused the wreck.
