Seven killed in Santiago mother and baby die in San Bernardo fifty five injured in Santiago two dead in Los Angeles and a wall collapse claims a woman. Mendoza damage substantial with initial fears of higher deaths but later reports cite two dead fifty injured. Prisoners escape Valparaiso jail but are recaptured near immediately.

J D Sumner 30 died an hour after being shot by Kansas City detective Homer Burns while fleeing after arrest in a $20 000 embezzlement case linked to Jacksonville Florida. Sumner was chased through the downtown area and fell mortally wounded in hospital. Police sought a car believed driven by Sumner as Jacksonville authorities requested the arrest.
W J Boddie once cashier of Citizens Bank of Creedmoor is freed on suspended judgment after restitution of about 14000 dollars for shortages. Bank directors charged with banking law violations are released as cases against them were not pressed.
William Tilden 2nd, top American player, defeats George Lott Jr of Chicago 6-2 7-5 6-2 in the finals at Pinehurst to win the United North and South championship. It marks the sixth final meeting of the season between Tilden and Lott, with Lott having one prior win.
John Walton Winn, 40, who killed elderly contractor Albert Nusbaum with a hammer, was hanged today in Chicago. In a final act he penned a farewell note to Eliza Nusbaum, his grandmother by marriage, who remains serving a life sentence for complicity in the case.

Others placing in pole vault and broad jump include Blackwood Barber and Smith in fourth, with Edwards Bullard Goodman among top finishers.
A tornado struck La Camp near Glenmora late yesterday during a rain storm lull, killing Ford Badnier and demolishing ten houses while damaging eight other buildings. Wire communications with the town have been cut off.
In Greenville Earl Carroll, theatrical producer, is semi conscious at intervals with doctors hopeful he will emerge from a coma soon. His wife Mrs Carroll and brothers James and Norman Carroll remain at his bedside as plans unfold for his transfer when he stabilizes. The Chief Deputy Marshal said Carroll will not be moved to the penitentiary until his doctors say he can travel.
