Miners Trapped In Old Wise Mine Near Henryetta

Twenty seven miners were trapped when McDonald Creek floodwaters flooded the Old Wise coal mine near Henryetta Oklahoma. Six were rescued before noon and 21 remained 70 feet underground three quarters of a mile northwest of the mine opening. Fire pumps struggled as crews tried to divert the flooded shaft and lower water levels, but the men are believed drowned.

Miners Escape As River Bed Gives Way Endurance Record Set

Bert Acosta and Clarence D. Chamberlin land after an endurance flight of 51 hours 12 minutes setting a world record. The plane hovered at 3006 feet before landing, breaking the previous mark by six hours as thousands cheered and police restrained the crowd. Gasoline dwindled to ten gallons at noon, forcing a timely descent.

A long distance call reported 24 or 6 miners trapped in the Ole Wise Coal mine at Henryetta Oklahoma after a roof collapse allowed 15 feet of water to flood the shaft. Rescue teams could not reach the mine by telephone due to the flood and impassable access.

Old Levee Caving Near Cairo Illinois Flooding Looms

The Columbus Kentucky levee, caving for two weeks, washed out 750 feet into the river. Residents and volunteers cut the levee to back water into the town to stop a full river sweep, threatening seven to ten feet of flood in the business district. Brakeman Fatally Injured In Coupling Accident

Raymond Thomas a 37 year old brakeman for the Seaboard Air Line railway was trapped between two freight cars while coupling them in Monroe. He was knocked under a car and his right leg was amputated at Monroe hospital after the lantern failed and another train backed down on him.

A major blaze in Morganton West Virginia destroyed a theatre hardware store music shop and several other buildings in a single block. Damage was estimated between 1 500 and 2 000 000 dollars. The fire occurred early today and razed multiple structures including businesses.
