Reynolds, grand commander of the National Legion of Moose, will speak on fraternalism. He was delayed in Washington and forgoes today’s local appearance.

A trucker witness near the desert site reinforced the lead in the week long hunt for Mrs Weston G Frome and her daughter Nancy.
In Vienna Adolf Hitler declared the Austrian union with Germany was the will of God and urged 50 million voters to back the plebiscite. He warned enemies that 75 million Germans would rise against them and pledged to hold power. RALEIGH April 9 Members of the Board of Conservation and Development will tour state parks May 15 21 from Mount Mitchell to Cape Hatteras lighthouse. Coleman W Roberts of Charlotte chairman said the inspection tour aims to open the boards eyes and show the public a park system to be proud of. The board will assemble May 15 at the Mount Mitchell game refuge in Yancey county.

A Borah proposal to tax interest on new government securities likely to be dropped in conference committee. Earlier votes rejected broadened income tax and higher surtaxes. Pope proposal killed 53 to 24.
Unofficial returns from six burley tobacco states show 98,270 votes for marketing quotas and 12,019 against. Western North Carolina barley counties vote overwhelmingly for control of 1938 crop surpluses through marketing quotas. 4,916 in favor and 1,823 opposed with a few precincts unreported.
New York reports George Arliss leaves for Charleston to mark his 70th birthday. He plans a two year theater sabbatical ending next October before returning to film talkies television and future entertainment ventures. He says birthdays do not prompt reminiscence.
Paris faced growing danger of unrest as Premier-Designate Edouard Daladier pledged a strong government by noon. Leftist protests, banned by police, were upheld by Dormoy despite Daladier's opposition, with troops ready to enforce order. Daladier sought decree powers and loan measures to stabilize the economy, while resisting further factory occupation.
